Former NOAA CAP/RISA team, the Carolinas Integrated Sciences and Assessments (CISA), published a new article on their work co-developing a watershed plan titled, “Lessons learned from Incorporating Climate Considerations in the Three Rivers Watershed-Based Plan.” The Three Rivers Watershed is located near the Columbia, SC metropolitan area and is a freshwater source for nearly 40,000 residents. CISA collaborated with the Central Midlands of Council Government and McCormick Taylor. The steps are outlined for constructing climate change scenarios, incorporating them into a basin-level model, and developing a holistic approach to climate adaptation and resilience for the Three Rivers Watershed-Based Plan. The article also presents lessons learned about integrating appropriate climate change scenarios with hydrological tools and incorporating a community development strategy that addresses freshwater pollution and integrates cobenefits and equitable adaptation frameworks into the watershed-based planning process.
