As part of a new seminar series on green infrastructure, climate, and cities, the Consortium for Climate Risk in the Urban Northeast (CCRUN) will host a webinar on May 7 titled “How do local decision makers and the public view climate change?”
Communicating about climate change involves more than just conveying information about the science, especially when that information evokes feelings of dread, fear, or guilt. Information about climate risks must be accompanied by direct connections to effective responses; otherwise, people are likely to become disengaged and demotivated. Green infrastructure can be an effective climate adaptation (and mitigation) solution with multiple co-benefits, but communication about both the climate risks and the responses needs to be carefully considered based on what the audience already knows, thinks, and values.
