Beginning in 2020, the National Weather Service (NWS) is expanding the William M. Lapenta NWS Student Internship Program (formerly the NCEP Internship) to include CPO, the Office of Weather and Air Quality and the Air Resources Laboratory as well as NWS programs in Silver Spring. NOAA Research hopes to expand these opportunities to all NOAA Research labs the following year. While the scope of research areas has broadened to include such topics as earth system science, modeling and climate prediction, the focus will continue to be on the quantitative and physical sciences, as well as on social science. With both undergraduate and graduate students eligible to participate, CPO hopes to promote understanding of climate science and contribute to a diverse and well trained future workforce in the NOAA mission sciences.

The program is accepting applications through January 31 for the summer 2020 cohort.
