The proposals will support Sea Grant program projects aimed at improving the resilience of flood-vulnerable communities through equitable and inclusive stormwater and floodplain management. Water infrastructure improvement is necessary in the coming decade to prevent flooding along the shores of and within the Great Lakes watershed, especially among marginalized communities.
Jones is set to discuss the social equity implications of extreme heat and how the NIHHIS-funded urban heat island mapping campaigns are providing vital information. This highly visible event will reach hundreds to thousands of Weather-Ready Nation ambassadors interested in extreme heat risk mitigation and social equity
The MERT-facilitated training supports ONMS in using NOAA’s wealth of data and services as well as building the capacity within ONMS to address research and management challenges in a changing climate.
The continued CPO-Sanctuaries partnership, in collaboration with NOAA Research labs, programs, and individual sanctuaries, will help further advance sanctuary climate science, assessment, and management as well as NOAA’s stewardship mission.
More than 125 participants from across at least 20 programs, agencies and institutions, including NOAA Research programs and labs, Office of National Marine Sanctuaries (ONMS) headquarters and individual Sanctuaries, and external agencies/institutions, joined the Jan. 26-28 workshop.
The workshop will engage members from across NOAA Research through the discussion of how their work can be leveraged to meet the climate science and information needs of sanctuaries and provide opportunities for new partnerships.
Called a story map, the interactive tool provides a background on stormwater and wastewater services for decision makers, scientists, and others working with or providing climate information and data for water utilities.
Climate change threatens valuable marine ecosystem resources managed by sanctuaries. These learning exchanges allow sanctuaries and partner offices to learn from each other about how to incorporate information into management strategies to reduce climate risks.
The Initiative aims to create more cohesion across CPO’s climate and decision science programs, while strengthening partnerships inside and outside of NOAA, to ultimately help advance climate science understanding and reduce impacts in a set of four climate-related risk areas.
