The 2021 RISA Network Meeting was held virtually from December 1-2, 1-5 pm EST. This was the first network meeting held since 2019, and the first time RISA held a network meeting virtually. Participants included members from all 13 active RISA teams, including two new teams. Objectives of the meeting were to:
- Share guidance from and facilitate interaction between RISA teams and federal leadership.
- Promote interconnection across the RISA network and peer-to-peer learning.
- Advance understanding and application of the RISA Program Theory.
- Learn about and engage with recent and ongoing Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion initiatives.
Prominent speakers included Ko Barrett (Senior Climate Advisor, NOAA), Craig McLean (Acting Chief Scientist; Assistant Administrator for Oceanic and Atmospheric Research, NOAA), Letise LaFeir (Senior Advisor, NOAA), and Laura Petes (Chief of Staff, Climate & Environment and Assistant Director for Climate Resilience; White House Office of Science & Technology Policy). Additionally, Ariela Zycherman, RISA Program Manager, moderated a panel focused on Frameworks for Environmental Justice which featured advocates for justice and equity across the federal government and academia. The meeting also featured a presentation on the RISA Program Theory, a series of flash talks from the regional RISA teams, and two breakout sessions.
