Development of the Fourth National Climate Assessment (NCA4) is underway, and on behalf of the U.S. Global Change Research Program (USGCRP), NOAA is soliciting nominations for authors and technical inputs.
CPO-funded researcher Dr. Melissa Kenney was the lead author on a paper published in the journal Climatic Change.
CPO’s Laura Petes is the lead author of “Science integration into U.S. climate and ocean policy,” which appeared in the August issue of Nature Climate Change.
An upcoming NCA rollout event in Hawaii is being led by the Pacific RISA and the Pacific Islands LCC.
The National Climate Assessment Development and Advisory Committee (NCADAC) recommended the development of a sustained National Climate Indicators System, which is supported through a NOAA CPO CICS-MD grant.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 5th Assessment Report on “The Physical Science Basis” of climate change has been completed and will appear online on Sept. 30, 2013. This report represents a milestone in the understanding of the Earth system and climate science. Scientific research funded by NOAA’s Climate Program Office (CPO) is foundational to advancing IPCC reports. CPO supports climate science research reflected in the IPCC’s report through its Climate Observations and Monitoring (COM); Earth System Science (ESS); and Modeling, Analysis, Predictions, and Projections (MAPP) programs.
The report from the Sustaining National Climate Assessments of Oceans and Coasts workshop is ready for viewing. This workshop, which took place April 22-23, 2013, was the first of its kind and focused explicitly on the sustained assessment process for a particular sector or region.
Including members of NOAA’s Climate Program Office, 63 experts from NOAA and other federal, academic, and nongovernmental organizations collaborated on Oceans and Marine Resources in a Changing Climate – a comprehensive look at the effects of climate change on the oceans and marine ecosystems under U.S. jurisdiction.
