Women’s History Month 2023 Campaign Round-Up

In March (and the beginning of April) 2023, CPO held an interview campaign that highlighted seven CPO staff scientists and CPO-funded scientists for Women’s History Month. 

Victoria Breeze, PhD 

Victoria Breeze, PhD, works at the pivotal intersection of atmospheric science and climate resilience. The Colorado native was recently promoted to the position of Program Manager for the Earth’s Radiation Budget (ERB) Program within the Earth System Science and Management (ESSM) Division of CPO. 

Lisa Vaughan 

Lisa Vaughan is a program manager for the NOAA Adaptation Sciences program and leads the international programs in CPO’s Climate and Societal Interactions Division. To support international resilience partnerships, she currently co-chairs two interagency working groups focused on international collaboration and climate services for adaptation. She is a thought leader in her field. 

Morgan Zabow 

Morgan Zabow is a climate and health communications and outreach coordinator. She works as part of the National Integrated Heat Health Information System (NIHHIS) and NOAA’s One Health Initiative teams. Morgan works with communities across the U.S. to map heat in their neighborhoods as part of an urban heat island mapping program. Morgan also was part of the team that created Heat.gov and is deeply involved in using social media and other communication tools to stress the importance of heat and health. 

LuAnn Dahlman 

LuAnn Dahlman is a core member of NOAA CPO’s Communication, Education, and Engagement Division (CEE) Division. In her role as writer, editor, and user advocate, LuAnn applies her knowledge and passion for accessible and understandable data to NOAA’s climate resilience resources such as the U.S. Climate Resilience Toolkit, Climate Mapping for Resilience Adaptation (CMRA) portal, and Climate Explorer

Dr. Annarita Mariotti 

Dr. Annarita Mariotti is an accomplished climate scientist with more than twenty years of research experience and numerous publications. During her career, she has criss-crossed 

continents, working as a researcher in academia, a program director at CPO, a science diplomat in China, and a policy advisor at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP). She is now a senior advisor and scientist at CPO.

Dr. Sarah Kapnick (also posted to Climate.gov

Dr. Sarah Kapnick has worn many hats: research scientist, sustainability strategist, deputy director, working mom, and—most recently—NOAA Chief Scientist. She was appointed to the position in July 2022, and is now responsible for overseeing and prioritizing policy and program direction for NOAA’s science and technology goals.

Jennifer Dopkowski 

Jennifer Dopkowski is the OAR program manager for the Climate and Fisheries Adaptation (CAFA) program, a cross-line office partnership between CPO’s Climate and Societal Interactions (CSI) division and NOAA Fisheries. Her responsibilities include designing and running interdisciplinary research competitions. Jen also supports a national interdisciplinary Community of Practice for CAFA principal investigators and their funded projects.
