Frank Niepold, NOAA’s Climate Education Coordinator, joined the UNFCCC event during Climate Week 2022 in New York City. The main objective of the event, held on September 21, 2022, at Columbia University in NYC, was to showcase the Action for Climate Empowerment Hub (ACE) Hub as an example of regional collaboration with the UNFCCC process that aims to accelerate the implementation of the Paris Agreement. The event further aimed to highlight the role of subnational entities and governments in taking climate action, encourage regional and multi-stakeholder collaboration with the UNFCCC process and grow the collaborative partnerships with the ACE Hub.

The ACE Hub is a three-year collaboration between the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Action and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) and UN Climate Change. The overarching goal of the project is to foster the implementation of Article 12 of the Paris Agreement related to climate education and public awareness, training, public participation, and public access to information known as Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE), as well as to enhance the cooperation between national governments, non-Party stakeholders and organizations, experts and companies within and outside NRW in addressing climate change. Additionally, NOAA’s goal of a Climate Ready Nation and our climate literacy priority were highlighted at the event.
