RISAs Participate in AGU Science Policy Meeting in Washington DC

While the focus of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Science Policy Meeting on June 24-26 was on how science can better inform policy, the ultimate goal was to move beyond discussions to actually taking action to improve the science-policy interface.

The key science-policy themes identified were energy, natural hazards, the Arctic, technology and infrastructure, oceans, and climate change. Within these themes, specific topics were identified. All speakers were invited; only poster session presentations were solicited. Four representatives from the RISA community participated in the meeting, including:

  • Kristen Averyt (WWA), AGU Science Policy Meeting Planning Committee, Moderator Energy-Water Nexus
  • Lynne Carter (SCCIP), Speaker, Sea Level Rise: Science Needs for Local Decisions
  • Radley Horton (CCRUN), Speaker, The Science of Recent Severe Weather Events
  • Bill Travis (WWA), Speaker, Drowning and Drought: Agricultural Impacts of Climate Change
