The Adaptation Sciences (AdSci) program contributed to a number of coastal blue carbon accomplishments in 2023.
NOAA programs and partners played a key role throughout the planning and implementation of the event, providing technical insight and sharing research findings relevant to island solutions.
The Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) Coastal Carbon Network (CCN) released on April 22nd, 2024 a first of its kind report on the latest state of available blue carbon data.
The report highlighted NOAA’s Blue Carbon Inventory Project’s international collaboration, specifically regarding two workshops in Ghana.
The NOAA Blue Carbon Inventory (BCI) Project delivered two capacity building workshops in Accra, Ghana to around 20 Government of Ghana staff and partners.
This workshop was the culmination of months of engagement between the U.S. Government and Government of Indonesia, it included multiple U.S. agencies and Indonesian ministries, and contributed to diplomatic progress on climate change collaboration.
CPO’s Adaptation Sciences Program works with partners in the public and private sector in the U.S. and abroad to enhance the knowledge, engagement and capacity needed to foster adaptation and resilience in the face of a changing climate.
Last year, the U.S. launched the President’s Emergency Plan for Adaptation and Resilience, or PREPARE. NOAA’s contributions to the PREPARE initiative were highlighted at the recent COP27 in Egypt.
